Background:
Upscaling Renewables in India is a project under the umbrella of Indo – German Energy Programme being implemented in India by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in Germany. The program supports Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in India. The program contributes to a sustainable and inclusive energy transition towards climate neutrality by promoting renewable energy expansion, modernization of the energy system, decarbonization of the economy, and approaches for a just transition in affected regions.
In line with Bengaluru’s vision to transition towards sustainable urban mobility, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) aims to power its infrastructure entirely with renewable energy. This initiative supports broader goals of reducing urban emissions, improving air quality, and contributing to Karnataka’s and India’s climate targets. To operationalize this ambition, BMTC with the support of relevant stakeholders seeks the services of a qualified consultant to develop a strategic and implementable roadmap for achieving 100% green energy for BMTC. The outcomes of these efforts will guide BMTC in implementing green energy solutions efficiently and at scale, thereby enhancing the sustainability of public transport services in Bangalore.
Objectives: The primary objective of this assignment is to support Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) in its transition toward a sustainable and climate-resilient energy future by developing a comprehensive Green Energy Roadmap and providing strategic bid process advisory services. The consultancy aims to enable BMTC to achieve 100% renewable energy integration across its infrastructure and operations through well-informed planning, viable business models, and effective procurement of renewable energy systems, particularly rooftop solar (RTPV) installations. This will include detailed analysis of current and future energy demand, identification of feasible renewable energy solutions (solar and etc), formulation of implementation strategies, and end-to-end support during the tendering and vendor selection processes to ensure transparent, cost-effective, and technically sound execution.
